Emily: (thoughtful) I don't know. But I can't accept some of the religious prejudices and narrow-mindedness. I need to explore the truth for myself.

Tom: I support you. We must believe in our own judgment.

Scene three: Park

(Emily and Jenny are walking in the park.)

Jenny: I heard you have doubts about faith?

Emily: Yes. I can't accept some of the religious prejudices and narrow-mindedness. I need to explore the truth for myself.

Jenny: I have the same doubts. But I think we can combine faith and science instead of excluding either of them.

Emily: (nodding) You're right. We need to explore the truth for ourselves.

Scene four: Inside the church

(Joseph is preaching, and Emily and Tom are sitting in the back row.)

Joseph: The word of God is the cornerstone of our faith. But we must accept the truth of science. They are not in conflict with each other.

Emily: (whispers to Tom) This is the answer I need.

Scene five: Outside the church

(Emily and Tom are outside the church, Emily's parents Lily and Eric are also present.)

Eric: Emily, I heard you have doubts about faith?

Emily: Yes. But I believe we can combine faith and science.

Lily: (smiling) We support your decision, Emily.

Scene six: Inside the church

(Emily is on the podium, delivering her new work.)

(Applause rings out, and everyone stands up to applaud.)
